Today while at work, which was my first day back in the office since last Wednesday morning (read: very busy morning), I was meeting with a worker when a co-worker walks in to tell me my car was just hit. By a flying tire. And, then she shows me a picture.

Ouch.
I proceed with my day, b/c there's nothing I can do at that point. The damage occurred, the totally oblivious driver kept on driving without missing a beat and no one snagged his/her license plate number. I learned a while later its being reported to the Deputy stationed in our building because the local police would not come out since it was a hit and skip. So, I head downstairs to submit my report, which requires me getting some information from the car. I head to my car to survey the damage. Not only was I hit shown above, but my back tail light was busted.

Um, ok.
THEN, someone else points out I have a dent on the top part of my driver's side door. Fan-freaking-tastic. This, I do not have a picture of yet.
Let me try, try, to put this in perspective. My car was hit on the front passenger hood/side panel, my back driver's side tail light, and the top part of my driver's side door. Three.totally.different.spots. Its almost nearly inconceivable to imagine. The tire somehow ping-ponged b/t my car and the one parked next to mine.
I proceed to look for my needed documentation and during my search, I realize I never renewed my tags. Damn. We received our yearly reminders, but it was for Jamie's car (my old car) and the car he turned in, not my current vehicle. At that time, in October, I mentally reminded myself to get to the DMV. Apparently, that calendar does not work so well. I forgot. And, my tags technically expired about 2 weeks ago, but I had until tonight at midnight to renew them without the fear of being pulled over and given additional sanctions. Silver lining, people.
After reporting the not-to-ever-be-investigated hit and skip, I return to my desk to report the claim to my insurance, when I'm promptly told we'll be responsible for a $250 deductible. Racket, what? Sidebar: My Mom (retired) and husband both work(ed) in insurance. I think its a scam. You pay all this money to be covered and then they want more. How was I supposed to prevent a flying, completely random tire that hits my car in three different spots?! How am I the responsible person paying the $250 to have it fixed. This does not seem right even in the slightest.
I then head to the BMV. I call in advance because I know they only accept a few payment methods (cash and check if you're heading that way) and I learn of the fee so I can withdraw enough funds. Normal tag renewal is $55, my tag renewal since I was 12 days late is $69.50. The awesome continued to increase and finally peaked on my [shitastic] day.
The moral of today's story, the cost of me going to work was MUCH more than I ever earned today. Merry #$(#&*)( Christmas to me.
